Six Reasons the Violence Against Women Act is Bad for Women

The Truth of Domestic Violence Handout, December 5, 2006
Print some out, carry one in you wallet or whatever, and whip it
out when you need the facts fast.

"Men Abused by Women, It Happens and It Matters", also from
Alberta's (Canada) Children Services. Thirteen pages. Very good
and factual introduction to men abused by women.

How the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) adversely impacts
men of color and their families.

Excellent Australian handout with data very similar to data from
the United States and other English speaking countries.

Mandatory Arrest: A Flawed Policy Based on a False
Premise, by Richard L. Davis is a retired police lieutenant, an
adjunct instructor for Quincy College at Plymouth, an author of
two books and numerous articles concerning domestic violence
and its intersection with the criminal justice system and the
President of www.Familynonviolence.org. Sage comments
welcomed at
rldavis@post.harvard.edu. – This pamphlet with
hyperlinks to many of the above studies is also available at

June 21, 2008: Eight short months from now the
Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) 2010 bill will
be introduced in Congress.
It won’t have much to say
about false allegations of domestic violence, discrimination
against male victims, the harmful effects of mandatory arrest
laws, or the mistreatment of women by abuse shelters.

Many call VAWA the “hate-men” law. If we want to stop the
continued assault on families, fathers, women, children, and
justice, we need to get the word out to the public and lawmakers
– and we need to say it repeatedly and boldly -- that the Violence
Against Women Act is conceivably one of the most harmful laws
ever passed.

Beginning Independence Day, July 4, RADAR, along with the
VAWA Reform Coalition, will be launching our biggest campaign
ever. The name of the campaign will be “Fix VAWA Now!”

We need your help! The following link takes you to a one page
flyer about why
the upcoming VAWA bill HAS TO BE STOPPED.
Please print out as many copies as you can and pass them out
to your friends, acquaintances, family members, at rallies,
picnics at the park, put a stack of 100 in your local court  house,
and get as many copies as possible into the public arena. E-
mail and Snail-mail some to your local, state, and federal
elected officials and policy makers. Involve everyone you can
think of, please! Click here for the
"Fix VAWA Now" flyer.
